The First1st Sergeant is the top ranking non commissioned officer in a company sized unit. He is the top sergeant that his troops call him “Top.” The name of top applies even if the 1st Sergeant is a lady but she will probably be referred to by the far more formal term of “First Sergeant” rather than the name “Top.”
