The notion of the army tank began 1000s of years back when Hannibal who was an African General would put armor on elephants and run them through enemy lines. The concept continued with the use of cavalry troops who would ride their mounts through enemy formations of troops on the ground. For the duration of WWI troops who have been protected by the weighty armor of the tank were ready to get near to the enemy and breach their lines with no currently being killed in the process.
